Magnitude 5.0 Earthquake Strikes Dalupiri Island in Cagayan

Dalupiri Island: A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan on Friday morning, as reported by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake, which had a tectonic origin, was recorded at 10:45 a.m. with a depth of 31 kilometers.

According to Philippines News Agency, the earthquake's effects were felt in various intensities across different regions. Intensity I was experienced in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, while Calayan, Cagayan recorded Instrumental Intensity IV, and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte recorded Instrumental Intensity I. The distinction between reported intensity and instrumental intensity is important, as the former is based on human reports of the quake's effects, while the latter is determined using intensity meters that measure ground acceleration.

Phivolcs indicated that there is no expected damage from the earthquake; however, aftershocks are likely to occur following the initial tremor.
