Davao occidental: A magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit Davao Occidental on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported. The tectonic quake struck around 36 kilometers southeast of Don Marcelino at about 5:22 p.m. and was registered at a depth of 106 kilometers.
According to Philippines News Agency, Intensity III was felt in Don Marcelino and Santa Maria, Davao Occidental, as well as in Malungon, Sarangani. Intensity II was reported in Malita, Davao Occidental; General Santos City; City of Koronadal, South Cotabato; and the Sarangani towns of Kiamba, Maasim, Alabel, Maitum, Glan, and Malapatan. Additionally, Intensity I was reported in Santo Ni±o, South Cotabato, and Columbio, Sultan Kudarat.
Phivolcs stated that both damage and aftershocks are not expected from the earthquake.
