Davao del Sur: A magnitude 5 earthquake shook Davao del Sur on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

According to Philippines News Agency, Phivolcs initially recorded the earthquake as magnitude 5.4 but later revised it to magnitude 5. The tectonic quake struck 5 kilometers southwest of Matanao at 9:42 a.m. and had a depth of 15 kilometers.

The earthquake was felt at different intensities across several areas. Intensity V was experienced in the City of Digos, Magsaysay, Matanao, and Bansalan in Davao del Sur. Intensity IV was reported in Hagonoy, Santa Cruz, the City of Davao, Kabacan, the City of Kidapawan, M'lang in Cotabato, Malungon in Sarangani, and Tampakan and Tupi in South Cotabato.

Residents in Antipas, Arakan, Magpet, Matalam, President Roxas, and Tulunan in Cotabato; Alabel, Glan, and Malapatan in Sarangani; Banga, the City of Koronadal, Polomolok, and Tantangan in South Cotabato; and the City of General Santos felt the quake at Intensity III.

Intensity II was recorded in Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental; Libungan in Cotabato; Norala, Surallah, Santo Ni±o, and T'Boli in South Cotabato. Meanwhile, Intensity I was felt in Don Marcelino in Davao Occidental; Banisilan in Cotabato; and Lake Sebu in South Cotabato.

Phivolcs has indicated that while damage is not expected, aftershocks are possible.
