Davao occidental: A magnitude 6.4 earthquake jolted Davao Occidental on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. The tectonic quake struck 37 km southwest of Balut Island at around 12:14 p.m. with a depth of 13 km.

According to Philippines News Agency, Intensity V was felt in Glan, Sarangani, while Intensity IV was observed in Kiamba, Sarangani; General Santos City; Malungon and Alabel, Sarangani; and Tupi and Polomolok in South Cotabato. The quake registered Intensity III in Maasim, Maitum, and Malapatan, Sarangani; and Lake Sebu and Tampakan in South Cotabato. An Intensity II tremor was reported in the City of Koronadal, Banga, and Surallah, South Cotabato.

Phivolcs reported that there is no destructive tsunami threat based on the available data. While damage is not expected from the magnitude 6.4 quake, the agency noted that aftershocks are possible.
