Buluan: Political candidates in Maguindanao del Sur signed a peace covenant Tuesday to help ensure a peaceful and orderly parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on Sept. 14. Before the signing, election stakeholders, local police and military officials, along with aspirants for the Bangsamoro parliamentary positions, gathered at the provincial capitol grounds in Buluan for a morning unity walk, followed by a candidates' forum.

According to Philippines News Agency, the activity underscored the collective resolve to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process, as emphasized by Maguindanao del Sur police provincial director Col. John Michael Mangahis. Allan Kadon, Maguindanao del Sur election supervisor; Brig. Gen. Edgar Catu, commander of the 601st Infantry Brigade; Brig. Gen. Omar Orozco, commander of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade; and the candidates participated in the unity walk from Buluan Bridge toward the capitol grounds.

During the event, Kadon presented the candidates for district representatives and regional political parties. Mangahis highlighted the significance of the election for the Bangsamoro people and their future, urging candidates to transform their platforms into actionable plans for their communities. He assured that the police would secure free and fair voting.

Kadon further outlined the Commission on Elections regulations, campaign guidelines, and the do's and don'ts for candidates. All candidates vowed to adhere to the rules and signed the peace agreement, committing to unity, safety, and fairness. Military and police officials also affixed their signatures as witnesses, symbolizing the shared commitment to safeguard the integrity of the first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections.
