Taguig City: Maharlika Investment Corp. (MIC) President and Chief Executive Officer Rafael Jose Consing Jr. announced plans for the Philippine investment fund to partner with Dubai Ports (DP) World in developing port infrastructure across the nation. This collaboration aims to enhance the country's logistics capabilities and improve the efficiency of goods transportation.
According to Philippines News Agency, Consing revealed during the "Doing Business with the Philippines" event in Taguig City that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was recently signed with DP World. The MOU, which marks a preliminary step towards this partnership, was signed on May 2 at the Malaca±an Palace, with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in attendance.
Consing emphasized the intent to explore opportunities to bolster logistics infrastructure across the Philippines, stressing that the partnership remains in the exploratory phase and will focus primarily on logistics. This initiative is anticipated to contribute significantly to the PHP10-billion pipeline investments that MIC has lined up for the year.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the collaboration, Consing noted the Philippines' geographical composition as an archipelago and the potential to reduce goods transportation costs through enhanced logistics platforms. In addition to port development, MIC is also evaluating investment prospects in the healthcare sector and energy transmission.
In a related development, Consing mentioned that MIC is aiming to increase its dividend contributions to the national government this year, following a PHP1.4 billion remittance to the national coffers for 2024.
