Malaca±ang Clarifies Stance on Release of Officials’ Travel Records

Manila: Malaca±ang stated that the release of foreign travel records by government officials is at their discretion, amid growing calls for transparency regarding overseas trips. Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized that Vice President Sara Duterte's foreign trips have been conducted with the necessary travel authority. However, she noted that the decision to disclose detailed records rests with the officials involved.

According to Philippines News Agency, Duterte recently traveled to Paris after an official visit to Kuwait, marking a total of 11 foreign trips this year. In comparison, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has made at least five overseas visits in the same period. The Vice President has urged lawmakers who criticize her travel schedule to release their official travel records as well, to address public questions.

The Palace official highlighted that President Marcos' travels are consistently made transparent, with the Palace providing updates on investment pledges and tourism benefits from each trip. "Whenever the President travels, the media is informed, and reports are made about the events, including any investment and tourism gains," Castro stated.
