KUALA TERENGGANU, Muhammad Syukur Khamis, 19, known as Malaysia's 'Mowgli' for his deep connection with nature and buffaloes, is embarking on a new adventure in the automotive world. He now manages a motorcycle workshop in Kampung Banggol Katong here. Teaming up with his brother, Muhammad Alias, 34, Syukur began running the workshop in June after completing a six-month Motorcycle Technology course at the GiatMARA Centre in Kuala Telemong, Hulu Terengganu. This venture is not just a small endeavour; Syukur has big ambitions and dreams of one day owning a high-tech, cutting-edge workshop. "My passion for high-powered motorcycles drove me to this field. The workshop was established four years ago, but when my brother became an instructor at GiatMARA Kuala Telemong, he couldn't manage it anymore," he said when met at his workshop today. He said his brother encouraged him to learn how to repair bikes and manage the workshop, adding that his brother still comes by at night to help, particularly with the high-p owered motorcycles. Although he is now busy managing the workshop, Syukur hasn't forgotten his roots. He still finds time to help his father, Khamis Jusoh, 68, with their livestock-buffaloes, goats, and cows-which have long been a part of his life. For Syukur, these animals aren't just livestock, they are his lifelong companions. He admits that his heart feels unsettled if he doesn't get to spend time with them. "Before heading to the workshop, I make sure all the animals are fed, and I do the same after finishing work in the evening," he added. "Although I don't have as much time with them as I used to, I try to make time whenever I can because they're my source of peace," said Syukur, who currently cares for 80 buffaloes, 30 goats and three cows.
