Manufacturers’ Group Welcomes Probe into Flood Control Projects

Manila: The investigation of flood control projects, as ordered by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., will help ensure accountability and protect the people, an umbrella organization of manufacturers and producers said Friday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) expressed its support for the President's initiative to address anomalies within these projects. They emphasized that "corruption and negligence in flood control projects are not just wastes of taxpayer money-they endanger lives and undermine confidence in government programs."

The FPI highlighted issues such as undocumented projects, identical contract amounts, and the use of substandard works, viewing these as significant threats to public safety, industry operations, and national resilience. They stressed that "flood control is too important to be compromised."

The organization warned that failed or fraudulent projects leave Filipino communities and industries vulnerable to devastating floods, which could destroy homes, crops, factories, and supply chains. In response, the group called for increased accountability and transparency, higher technical standards, strict monitoring and enforcement, and adherence to Philippine National Standards (PNS) for related projects.

Furthermore, the FPI acknowledged the creation of the 'Sumbong sa Pangulo' platform, which allows the public to report anomalies. They asserted that "flood control must be anchored on accountability, strict monitoring, and uncompromising compliance with PNS," to ensure that infrastructure effectively protects people, industries, and the future.
