Marcoleta Cleared for Travel Post-Pneumonia Treatment, Awaits Further Orders

Manila: Sen. Rodante Marcoleta has been declared "fit to travel" following successful treatment for mild pneumonia, though he continues to remain under the custody of the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNPGH) to complete his antibiotics course, police officials reported on Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Lt. Col. Benaly Bayani, chief for Internal Medicine at PNPGH, emphasized that any decisions regarding Marcoleta's transport would adhere to orders from the Sandiganbayan. Bayani specified that the senator's fitness to travel is contingent upon the completion of his antibiotic treatment, which is scheduled to conclude on July 15. She clarified that discussions had not covered the clearance issuance by PNPGH, noting that their recommendation solely focused on the antibiotics' completion. Once completed, the hospital is prepared to transfer Marcoleta upon receiving the necessary directives.

Bayani also confirmed that all medical tests for Marcoleta have been completed and incorporated into their report. Marcoleta remains in PNP custody following his arrest for a non-bailable plunder case initiated by the Office of the Ombudsman over undeclared campaign donations. He voluntarily appeared before the Sandiganbayan on July 6, filing a motion to quash regarding the plunder and indirect bribery case against him and his co-accused, which include former congressman Mike Defensor and businessmen Joseph Espiritu and Aristotle Viray.
