Marcos Administration Focuses on Road Safety and Infrastructure Improvements

Manila: The Marcos administration is committed to improving the country's road infrastructure and undertaking maintenance services to ensure road safety and reduce traffic violations and deaths, Malaca±ang said Thursday. Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro highlighted ongoing road improvement efforts, which have been in progress even before the implementation of the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP).

According to Philippines News Agency, Castro emphasized during a Palace press briefing that key agencies like the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Department of Transportation, and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) are actively working to enhance road safety regulations. 'The President doesn't just stop at planning. Now he's taking action,' Castro stated, underscoring the administration's proactive approach.

Castro further explained that the road repairs were not solely initiated due to the NCAP, noting that such efforts have been underway for some time. The NCAP, which utilizes CCTV cameras to monitor and validate traffic violations, is being implemented on major thoroughfares throughout Metro Manila, including EDSA, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon Avenue, Roxas Boulevard, and Taft Avenue.

On the first day of the NCAP's reimplementation on May 26, the MMDA recorded 1,112 traffic violations. This number decreased to 565 by June 1, indicating a positive impact of the policy within just a week of enforcement. In addition, motorists can now view and settle their traffic violations using the government's eGov PH super app, as the Department of Information and Communications Technology collaborates with the MMDA to integrate the NCAP system.
