Marcos and Trump Discuss Strengthening PH-US Alliance in Phone Call.

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. engaged in a phone conversation with United States President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday morning, where both leaders deliberated on the enduring alliance between the Philippines and the United States. According to Philippines News Agency, during a media interview amidst his visit to typhoon-affected communities in Catanduanes, Marcos conveyed the Philippines' willingness to further enhance its relations with its oldest and strongest military ally. He emphasized the deep-rooted ties between the two nations, highlighting the long-standing nature of their relationship. Marcos also expressed his eagerness to meet Trump in person at the earliest opportunity. Additionally, he informed Trump that Filipino voters in the United States had shown significant support for him in the recent elections, where Trump secured his second term as president. Marcos mentioned that it is his mother, Imelda Marcos, who shares a close friendship with Trump. He recounted Trump's inquiry about her well-being and conveyed her congratulations to him. While the discussion did not cover concerns about the potential mass deportation of undocumented immigrants in the US following Trump's victory, Marcos assured that the government is already taking steps to assist affected Filipinos. He noted that their ambassador is actively addressing the issue. Marcos described the conversation with Trump as "very productive" and expressed satisfaction with the exchange. He believed that President-elect Trump was equally pleased to receive a call from the Philippines.
