Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed new members to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). Palace Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed to reporters that the new set of board members has been named.
According to Philippines News Agency, the appointment paper signed by the President on December 2 lists Nestor Cuartero, Maria Rosario Fabregas, and Ma. Cecilia Villarosa as the new members. These appointees will serve until September 30, 2026, replacing Jerry Talavera, Cherry Anne Espion, and Jan Marini Cadungog.
The MTRCB is the Philippine government agency responsible for reviewing and classifying movies, television programs, and other audiovisual content. Established in 1985 under Presidential Decree 1986, the MTRCB is responsible for regulating, classifying, and reviewing films and TV programs to ensure that the content is suitable for the Filipino audience.
The board's primary role is to protect the public, especially minors, from potentially harmful or inappropriate material while also supporting the growth of the Philippine entertainment industry.
