Marcos Approves New Sports High School in Bataan and Medical Center in Aurora

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has signed into law the establishment of a high school dedicated to sports in Bataan and a medical center in Aurora, as outlined in Republic Acts 12239 and 12240, respectively.

According to Philippines News Agency, the laws were enacted on August 29, and the details were published in The Official Gazette. Republic Act 12239 initiates the creation of the Bataan High School for Sports in Bagac, Bataan, aimed at nurturing the athletic talents and skills of the youth. The school will be managed by the Department of Education, in collaboration with the Philippine Sports Commission and the National Academy of Sports.

The high school will offer secondary education per the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, focusing on students with significant sports potential. The curriculum will emphasize physical education and sports, as specified in the act. The school is tasked with developing policies, establishing sports programs, and forming strategic alliances with sports organizations to boost student competitiveness.

Funding for the school's initial operations will come from the province's Schools Division Office, with future financial requirements to be included in the annual General Appropriations Act. The Department of Education, along with other agencies and local government, is required to establish implementing rules within 90 days of the law's effect.

In Aurora, Republic Act 12240 authorizes the construction of a Level III General Hospital in Baler, named the Aurora Medical Center. This facility will be managed by the Department of Health and will accommodate 200 beds. The Health Secretary is instructed to incorporate the hospital's funding needs into the department's budget plan.
