Taguig City: A reconciliation and political unity between President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the Duterte family would be ideal for the country, an analyst said Tuesday. In an interview in Taguig City, Stratbase ADRI president Dindo Manhit expressed support for Marcos' willingness to repair relations with the Dutertes, suggesting it would allow the country's leadership to concentrate on significant issues, particularly external challenges.
According to Philippines News Agency, Manhit emphasized the importance of unity in addressing the country's challenges, stating, "In our country, it is good to have unity because the greatest challenge is outside, the country's challenges are external." He further elaborated that any reconciliation between Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte should be rooted in accountability and good governance. He indicated that the unity must be based on core principles like accountability, truth, and respect for institutions, especially in light of the Vice President's impending trial before a Senate impeachment court.
President Marcos, in a recent statement, expressed his readiness to reconcile with the Dutertes, emphasizing his desire for "stability and peace," rather than conflict. He mentioned in the first episode of his BBM Podcast, "As much as possible, I pursue stability and peace so we can do our work. I'm always open to things like that. I'm always open to any approach that says 'let's help each other.'"
