Marcos Highlights Anti-Corruption as Key to Funding National Priorities

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. emphasized that the national budget could adequately support his administration's priority programs over the next three years if public funds are managed correctly and corruption is eradicated.

According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos stated in the latest episode of the BBM Podcast that eliminating corruption is crucial to ensuring that allocated funds are used for their intended purposes. He cited examples where infrastructure projects suffer due to corrupt practices, resulting in only partial completion while funds are misappropriated by officials. Marcos stressed that stringent management and proper allocation of resources are essential for having a sufficient budget.

In his recent State of the Nation Address, President Marcos specifically addressed corruption in public infrastructure, particularly in flood control projects, which have led to repeated flooding in various communities. In response, he has ordered a comprehensive audit of such projects over the past three years and called for legal action against those involved in fund mismanagement or profiteering.

President Marcos also tackled concerns about the nation's PHP17.27 trillion debt as of June, comparing government borrowing to corporate investments. He urged the public to consider the country's growing assets alongside its liabilities. He highlighted the Filipino workforce as a significant asset and reiterated his commitment to investing in education and training to enhance labor competitiveness.

He further mentioned that empowering workers through skills development, coupled with the government's anti-corruption efforts, would ensure that national funds are directed to areas where they are most needed.
