Marcos Highlights Peace and Cooperation as Catalysts for BARMM Development

Cotabato city: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. underscored the critical role of peace and cooperation between the national government and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in driving the region's ongoing development. Speaking at the BARMM's seventh founding anniversary celebration held at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex, Marcos attributed the region's progress to the unity, dialogue, and sustained collaboration among various stakeholders.

According to Philippines News Agency, the creation of BARMM represents a significant milestone in the history of the Philippines, marking a pivotal step not only for Muslim Mindanao but for the entire nation. President Marcos highlighted the establishment of BARMM as a testament to the nation's commitment to peace, dialogue, and unity, emphasizing that these elements are essential for lasting peace. He pointed to the achievements made since the enactment of the Bangsamoro Organic Law in 2018 and the formal inauguration of BARMM in 2019 as evidence of this progress.

The President emphasized that the creation of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) has laid the groundwork for self-governance within BARMM, demonstrating the collective resolve of the government, the Bangsamoro people, and the international community to achieve peace, unity, and progress. He noted that public service becomes more effective when conducted in solidarity and collaboration.

Over recent years, institutions within BARMM have been strengthened, and the aspirations of Muslim Filipinos have been supported. Marcos highlighted the deepening partnership between the national government and the Bangsamoro government, urging regional leaders to align local initiatives with national programs to maximize development gains. He acknowledged the progress made while emphasizing that there is still more work to be done.

Marcos called on stakeholders to leverage national programs to benefit the Bangsamoro region, stating that cooperation leads to better outcomes for communities. He reaffirmed the national government's commitment to expanding livelihood and economic opportunities, improving living standards, and ensuring inclusive growth within BARMM.

Expressing optimism about the region's future, Marcos noted visible improvements and a growing sense of hope among residents. He emphasized that peace remains the cornerstone of progress and urged all stakeholders to protect the gains achieved through unity and cooperation.

Looking ahead to the upcoming BARMM elections, Marcos highlighted the opportunity to strengthen democratic leadership that is accountable and responsive to the people. He encouraged Bangsamoro leaders to build a governance system anchored on accountability, participation, and shared responsibility, noting that BARMM has the advantage of learning from past governance challenges.

As the nation strives to build a "Bagong Pilipinas" (New Philippines), Marcos expressed confidence that the Bangsamoro people will continue to benefit from peace, choosing unity over division and ensuring a legacy of effective governance for future generations.
