Marcos Jr. has articulated his aspirations for the Philippines to foster stronger bilateral relations with China and Chile, following the appointment of their newly designated ambassadors to the country. In separate ceremonies held at Malaca±an Palace, President Marcos welcomed Chinese Ambassador Jing Quan and Chilean Ambassador Felipe Alejandro Diaz Iba±ez, expressing optimism for future collaborations.
According to Philippines News Agency, during the presentation of credentials by Jing Quan, President Marcos emphasized the importance of China as a key partner for the Philippines. He voiced his hope for strengthening the ties between the two nations, aiming for deeper and more significant relations over time. President Marcos suggested that differences between the countries should be exceptions rather than norms, indicating a focus on cooperative rather than divisive issues.
Jing Quan, who brings extensive diplomatic experience from his previous role as minister and deputy chief of mission at the Chinese Embassy in the United States, is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing China-Philippines relations.
Similarly, President Marcos expressed a warm welcome to Chile's new ambassador, Felipe Alejandro Diaz Iba±ez, noting the longstanding friendship and cooperative history between the Philippines and Chile. President Marcos expressed confidence in continuing and expanding the positive relationship fostered over the years.
Felipe Diaz, whose diplomatic career began in 1999, previously served at the Embassy of Chile in the Philippines and as Chile's Consul General in Tacna, Peru, before returning to Manila. His experience in cultural and economic-commercial affairs is anticipated to contribute to the strengthening of bilateral ties.
The Philippines established diplomatic relations with Chile and China in 1946 and 1975, respectively. Both ambassadors have committed to enhancing cooperation and maintaining the friendly relations that have characterized their countries' interactions with the Philippines.
