Marcos Urges Protection of Civilians as Humanitarian Crisis Worsens in Gaza

Kuala Lumpur: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has voiced significant concern over the growing humanitarian situation in Gaza, urging for the safeguarding of civilians and adherence to international humanitarian law.

According to Philippines News Agency, during the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, President Marcos condemned the increasing casualties resulting from Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip. His remarks coincide with international appeals for a ceasefire and improved humanitarian access in the conflict-affected Palestinian region.

President Marcos expressed grave concern over Israel's ongoing military actions, highlighting the rising civilian death toll, including women and children, which exacerbates the humanitarian crisis. He called on all parties to respect international law, particularly the rules protecting non-combatants during armed conflicts.

He further emphasized the Philippines' stance, urging adherence to international obligations with a focus on civilian protection and facilitating humanitarian aid to those in need. The summit, which included leaders from ASEAN member states and six GCC countries-Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates-focused on strengthening political and economic ties amid global tensions.
