Metro Manila: The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced a significant reduction in the crime rate across Metro Manila, with a 23.13 percent decrease observed from November 23, 2024, to May 23, 2025.
According to Philippines News Agency, NCRPO Director Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin revealed that the number of crimes reported fell to 2,589, a notable reduction from the 3,368 cases recorded during the same period the previous year. This equates to 779 fewer incidents of murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, and carnapping.
Maj. Gen. Aberin credited the decline to continuous officer training, adequate resource allocation, proactive crime prevention measures, swift law enforcement responses, and strengthened partnerships with communities and stakeholders to ensure public safety.
The reduction was evident across several major crime categories: murder decreased by 25 percent, homicide by 19.18 percent, physical injuries by 25.75 percent, rape by 29.28 percent, theft by 25.51 percent, and robbery by 16.99 percent. Carnapping incidents involving motor vehicles saw an 11.11 percent reduction, though there was a slight 5.38 percent increase in motorcycle carnapping.
Crime solution efficiency remained strong at 69.64 percent, slightly improving from the previous 69.04 percent. However, the crime clearance efficiency experienced a minor decline, dropping from 99.67 percent to 99.15 percent.
Maj. Gen. Aberin affirmed the NCRPO's commitment to maintaining peace and security, stating, "We are proving that with clear direction, collaboration, and an unshakable commitment to service, the NCRPO can and will deliver lasting peace and security for every citizen of Metro Manila."
