Manila: Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) on Wednesday announced a significant achievement by its subsidiary in Singapore, PacificLight Power Pte Ltd (PLP), with the completion and commissioning of a 100-megawatt (MW) Fast Start ancillary services facility on Jurong Island, Singapore. This new development is set to enhance PLP's capacity to provide reliable and responsive power to the Singaporean grid.
According to Philippines News Agency, the power generation arm of Meralco emphasized that this facility will enable the electricity power generator to offer rapid-response generation capacity, delivering essential grid support during unplanned outages or system disturbances. The initiative underscores a commitment to investing in high-efficiency, future-ready technologies that tackle both reliability and sustainability issues.
Emmanuel Rubio, MGEN president and chief executive officer, expressed pride in contributing to Singapore's energy security through PLP, while also expanding the company's regional footprint with innovation at its core. PLP, which has been operational since 2014, already runs an 830-MW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant.
Additionally, MGEN revealed plans for PLP to construct a 670-MW hydrogen-ready CCGT power plant on Jurong Island, projected to be operational by January 2029.
