Manila: Mindanao Development Authority Secretary Leo Tereso Magno stated on Tuesday that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s fifth State of the Nation Address emphasized his dedication to ensuring that the rule of law and justice prevail over personal ties.
According to Philippines News Agency, Magno discussed the context of plunder complaints involving Marcos' cousin, former Speaker Martin Romualdez. He remarked, "One of the most significant messages delivered by the President was his declaration that he is the President of all Filipinos - not of his family or his friends." This statement, Magno explained, clearly indicates that public office entails impartiality and accountability.
Magno further elaborated that the SONA laid out a comprehensive roadmap focusing on economic strengthening, improving public services, energy security, disaster resilience, and accelerating inclusive development across the nation. He also highlighted Marcos' directive to amend the Electric Power Industry Reform Act to eliminate system loss charges for electricity consumers.
"For Mindanao, where affordable and reliable power remains essential to economic growth, this proposed reform is a welcome step toward protecting Filipino households and businesses from unnecessary costs while promoting a more equitable energy sector," Magno commented.
Additionally, Magno pointed out the President's emphasis on strengthening agriculture, expanding energy options, encouraging waste-to-energy facilities, exploring hydrogen and nuclear energy, modernizing infrastructure, and enhancing disaster preparedness-priorities that align with Mindanao's development agenda.
Magno emphasized, "The President's commitment to improving the lives of ordinary Filipinos through tax relief, expanded healthcare services, digitalized government assistance, and reforms in the energy sector reflects a shared goal of making public service more responsive, accessible, and people-centered."
Mindanao, he noted, continues to be a crucial contributor to the nation's food security, energy future, trade, and investment. The administration's ongoing focus on infrastructure, investment promotion, and regional connectivity offers greater opportunities for the island to achieve its full economic potential.
"Together, we will continue building a stronger, more resilient, and more prosperous Mindanao that contributes meaningfully to the country's inclusive and sustainable development," Magno concluded.
