Seoul: The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) has entered into five strategic memoranda of understanding with prominent South Korean companies during a recent business forum in South Korea. These agreements aim to enhance renewable energy adoption and improve energy security in Mindanao, while also creating opportunities in various sectors.

According to Philippines News Agency, MinDA Secretary Leo Tereso Magno announced on Thursday that the memoranda of understanding cover a range of areas including traffic and safety solutions, water treatment and disaster prevention technologies, environmental consulting, solar power generation, and nickel processing and industrial development. These initiatives are part of the broader effort to foster economic growth and sustainable development in the region.

MinDA Secretary Magno emphasized the Philippine government's commitment to facilitating foreign investment. "President Ferdinand (R.) Marcos Jr. has given us clear instructions in government: to provide assistance to all interested investors, not to give them red tape, but a red carpet," he stated in an interview. This directive underscores the administration's focus on streamlining processes and reducing barriers for international partners.

Philippine Ambassador-Designate to South Korea, Bernadette Therese Fernandez, highlighted the strong bilateral ties between the two nations. She noted that South Korea is the Philippines' fourth-largest trading partner, with total trade reaching USD 9.89 billion in 2024. Additionally, South Korea remains the top source of foreign tourists to the Philippines, further cementing the relationship between the two countries.

These agreements represent a significant step forward in the Philippines' efforts to build strong international partnerships and drive economic progress through sustainable practices.
