Mindanao Innovation Technology Summit Aims to Promote Government Innovations

Baghdad:Mindanao The Department of Science and Technology in the Caraga Region (DOST-13) is hosting the Mindanao Innovation Technology Transfer Summit, a two-day event designed to transform government-funded innovations into practical solutions through collaboration among researchers, technology developers, businesses, and local governments.

According to Philippines News Agency, the summit, taking place from October 27 to 28, gathers around 250 participants, including researchers, technology developers, businesses, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), startups, local government units (LGUs), and other stakeholders from Mindanao and other parts of the country.

DOST-13 Regional Director Noel Ajoc stated that the summit serves as a platform for technology exhibitions, presentations, consultations, and partnership-building activities. It marks the first such event in Caraga and the second in Mindanao, providing an opportunity for researchers and technology developers to showcase government-funded technologies.

The summit aims to explore how research and innovations can be translated into practical solutions to meet the needs of communities, businesses, and local governments. An activity called reverse pitching is included, where LGUs and businesses express their innovation needs, which scientists and technology developers will work to meet.

Ajoc emphasized that the summit acts as a marketing venue, presenting available technologies to potential adopters and beneficiaries, particularly LGUs and businesses. DOST offers support through its Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) to assist those interested in adopting and operating appropriate technologies.
