Calamba: The Calamba municipal government in Misamis Occidental announced plans to recalibrate its private-public sector strategies to strengthen the local economy.
According to Philippines News Agency, during the "Let's Talk MisOcc" virtual talk show, Mayor Luisito Villanueva emphasized that the economic paradigm shift aims to create a business-friendly environment benefiting local stakeholders, particularly local entrepreneurs and the workforce. "The local government unit will intervene only in areas where the private sector will not invest, such as roads, bridges, and irrigation," he explained.
Villanueva highlighted that by concentrating on essential infrastructure, the municipality is setting the groundwork for entrepreneurs to propel the economy forward. Once a landlocked barrio of Plaridel town 78 years ago, Calamba now boasts a population of over 24,000 within its 7,800-hectare area.
The mayor noted that the municipality hosts 1,491 micro and macro business establishments, underscoring its economic potential due to its strategic location at the crossroads of neighboring municipalities.
