Manila: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has teamed up with SM Supermalls to offer the public live traffic feeds from selected traffic cameras, providing motorists with real-time traffic updates across the metropolis.
According to Philippines News Agency, the initiative was launched at SM Megamall, where MMDA Chair Romando 'Don' Artes announced that live CCTV feeds would be displayed in participating SM malls to show traffic conditions in nearby areas. Currently, the live traffic feed is available at SM Megamall, showcasing traffic conditions on the southbound portions of EDSA-Shaw Boulevard and EDSA-Ayala, as well as the northbound portions of EDSA-Guadiz and EDSA-Santolan.
Guadiz stated that this initiative at SM Megamall is just the beginning, with plans to extend it to the Mall of Asia and SM North EDSA. Additionally, a traffic advisory will be posted to include traffic information not only along EDSA but also across the entire Metro Manila. The collaboration aims to enhance the reach of the agency's traffic information services by utilizing the high foot traffic of SM malls.
The project is designed to provide commuters with timely and accurate traffic information, enabling the public to make informed travel decisions, which can improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in key areas, Guadiz noted.
Christian Mathay, SM Supermalls regional operations head, emphasized that the project is a public-private partnership aimed at delivering simple, smart solutions that provide real value to people. He expressed that the launch is a step towards more data-driven, community-focused initiatives that help Filipinos move safely and smoothly, and thanked MMDA for their trust and collaboration.
