Manila: The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) have signed a landmark agreement giving national athletes long-term access to the facilities at the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac. The New Clark City, which features a world-class athletics stadium and aquatics center, and an Athletes Village, was built for the country's hosting of the Southeast Asian Games in 2019. The Athletes Village has 100 fully furnished, air-conditioned rooms designed for triple sharing.
According to Philippines News Agency, PSC Chairperson Patrick Gregorio emphasized the importance of the partnership in a news release. 'This partnership is both logical and inevitable: to provide world-class facilities for world-class athletes,' Gregorio stated. He also highlighted the strong alignment with BCDA, recognizing that investments in sports infrastructure and athletes drive economic development as much as national pride.
BCDA President and CEO Joshua Bingcang underscored the synergy between the two agencies and their shared commitment to maximizing government-built facilities. 'We will continue unlocking the full potential of BCDA properties so every training ground becomes a launchpad for future world-class Filipino athletes. By bringing together BCDA's development engine and PSC's commitment to Philippine sports, we are turning land into competitive advantage and facilities into platforms for future wins,' Bingcang said.
Present at the MOA signing were PSC Commissioner Edward Hayco and BCDA OIC Senior Vice President for Conversion and Development Mark Torres. Gregorio remarked on the collaboration: 'This is truly a partnership made in heaven. BCDA develops and manages high-value land and infrastructure, while PSC ensures these facilities are maximized for the training and development of our national teams.'
This agreement marks the second collaboration between PSC and BCDA in recent months. The Camp John Hay multi-purpose sports facility in Baguio, jointly undertaken by the two government agencies, is set to be completed within 18 months, starting in the first quarter of 2026.
