Cebu: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) dispatched an 18-person team to Cebu province in response to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to mobilize resources and deliver aid to quake-hit communities. The team aims to assist affected civilians and support relief and recovery efforts.
According to Philippines News Agency, MMDA Chair Don Artes stated that the team comprises personnel from the Public Safety Division and Road Emergency Group. They were deployed in coordination with the Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to ensure effective collaboration on the ground.
In addition to human resources, the MMDA has also deployed K9 dogs to aid in earthquake response and rescue operations. These dogs are trained to locate individuals trapped under rubble or debris by using their keen sense of smell, enhancing the search and rescue efforts.
The team is well-equipped with solar-powered water purifiers to provide clean water, life locators, battery-operated extrication equipment, trauma bags, and various clearing tools, such as chainsaws and dump trucks. These resources are crucial in maintaining mobility and accessibility by clearing debris from roads.
Don Artes emphasized that the team will remain in the affected areas "as long as needed" to continue supporting the local communities in their recovery efforts.
