MMDA Urges Luzon Malls to Offer Free Parking During Storm Uwan

Manila: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday issued an appeal to shopping mall operators across Luzon, urging them to provide free overnight parking as Severe Tropical Storm Uwan approaches the region. This public service measure is aimed at assisting residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

According to Philippines News Agency, MMDA Chair Don Artes announced that the initiative should commence on Saturday night and continue throughout the duration of Uwan's passage. The storm is anticipated to intensify to a super typhoon once it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility. "Your cooperation in this joint public service effort will greatly help protect lives and properties amid this severe weather event," Artes emphasized.

The agency highlighted the importance of this measure in safeguarding individuals and their properties from potential flooding. Residents are encouraged to stay informed by checking official social media pages of shopping malls for updates on the availability of these temporary safe parking spaces. The MMDA Public Information Office will also assist by reposting official announcements from the malls.
