Manila: More areas have been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 as Tropical Storm Kiyapo slightly intensified, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 11 a.m. bulletin on Friday. Kiyapo packs maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It was last located 135 km east of Aparri, Cagayan, moving westward at 30 kph.

According to Philippines News Agency, gale-force winds will prevail in areas under Signal No. 2, including Batanes, the northern portion of Cagayan (covering Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Santa Teresita, and several other municipalities) as well as the Babuyan Islands. The northern portion of Apayao and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte are also under Signal No. 2. Residents in these areas are advised to brace for the strong winds.

Strong winds will also be experienced in areas where Signal No. 1 is hoisted. This includes the rest of mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, the rest of Apayao, and several areas in Northern Luzon. The northern and central portions of Aurora are also expected to experience these conditions. PAGASA mentioned that most of the country will continue facing strong to gale-force gusts due to Kiyapo's periphery and the southwest monsoon.

A gale warning remains in effect over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in several regions including Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte, as well as parts of the Visayas and Mindanao. PAGASA forecasts that Kiyapo may pass close to the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan and could pass very close or make landfall in the vicinity of Babuyan Islands within the day. The cyclone is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday.
