Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday reinforced its commitment to community safety through the intensified deployment of personnel nationwide to enhance visibility and accessibility in public spaces. In a statement, PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said police presence in communities serves not only as a deterrent to crime but also builds public confidence and trust in law enforcement.
According to Philippines News Agency, Gen. Marbil directed all units nationwide to maximize visibility through sustained foot and mobile patrols, particularly in high-density areas, public transport hubs, commercial zones, and tourist destinations. He stated that as of Wednesday, 69,657 police personnel have been deployed in various convergence points nationwide. "These deployments ensure that police officers are where they are most needed-on the streets and within communities," he said.
To further extend its reach and effectiveness, the PNP has activated force multipliers, including members of accredited civic volunteer organizations (CVOs), barangay tanods (village police), and other community support groups. Gen. Marbil emphasized that "crime prevention begins with presence," and expressed the importance of ensuring that every Filipino feels assured that help is always within reach with a police officer nearby, ready to respond and serve.
In Metro Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) recently conducted a two-day surprise inspection across its five police districts to assess operational readiness and ensure all police posts are functioning as intended. NCRPO Director Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin ordered the relief of nine commanders and an investigation into 28 personnel for leaving their respective assistance desks unattended during a surprise inspection last weekend. Besides the commanders, Aberin mentioned that the NCRPO is also investigating lower-ranking personnel for negligence.
