Iloilo City: MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) is poised to extend its services to 15 municipalities and one component city in Iloilo province after the Supreme Court conclusively denied the motion for reconsideration from electric cooperatives contesting the validity of MORE Power's expanded franchise.
According to Philippines News Agency, MORE Power's legal officer, Elizabeth Dyhn Cabunagan, stated that the Supreme Court's ruling confirms the legitimacy of MORE Power's expanded franchise, enabling the company to broaden its electric distribution services beyond Iloilo City to include various areas in the province. This decision, received on June 13, is seen as a promising development for the company, which is eager to serve consumers in the second and fourth districts of Iloilo.
The request for MORE Power's expansion originated in 2021, reflecting a long-standing demand from the province. The company anticipates obtaining the Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) within this year, allowing them to commence operations for prospective customers in the province. The CPCN, a permit from the Energy Regulatory Commission, is essential for initiating utility services. Although pending since 2022, the final hearing for the CPCN is scheduled for this month.
Once the CPCN is granted, MORE Power plans to implement its development strategy over the next four to five years. The company aims to introduce modern infrastructure, competitive rates, and outstanding customer service, akin to the standards in Iloilo City.
Roel Castro, president and CEO of Primelectric Holdings Inc., the parent company of MORE Power, expressed gratitude for the Supreme Court's support of "the rule of law and the will of the people." He emphasized that the ruling represents a triumph for consumers who have awaited modern, reliable, and efficient electric services for two years.
The expanded franchise will encompass the towns of Alimodian, Anilao, Banate, Barotac Nuevo, Dingle, Due±as, Dumangas, Leganes, Leon, New Lucena, Pavia, San Enrique, San Miguel, Santa Barbara, and Zarraga, including Passi City.
