NAIA to Undergo Comprehensive Modernization with Collins Aerospace Partnership

Manila: The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is set to undergo a "full system overhaul" this year through a strategic partnership with US-based Collins Aerospace, as announced by the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) on Thursday. This initiative aims to transform NAIA into a modern and efficient airport, enhancing its stature as a world-class gateway.

According to Philippines News Agency, NNIC President Ramon Ang emphasized the significance of this long-awaited modernization. Ang stated that the advancements will position NAIA as one of the leading airports in the region. The collaboration with Collins Aerospace will see a dedicated support team deployed at NAIA in May, with core systems for passenger processing, baggage tracking, and resource management expected to be operational by August.

The final phase, scheduled for completion in September, will bring several new features to NAIA, including self-service check-in kiosks, pre-security e-gates, self-bag drop stations, and biometric boarding gates. These innovations aim to streamline the passenger experience, reducing wait times and enhancing security through biometric screening.

The modernization project will introduce a common use passenger processing system and self-service kiosks, allowing passengers to check in and drop off luggage efficiently. An upgraded flight information display system will provide real-time flight updates, accessible both at the airport and via the NAIA website.

Security measures will be enhanced through the implementation of pre-security e-gates and passenger flow management systems. Additionally, a new airport operational database and resource management system will optimize staff deployment and resource allocation. A baggage reconciliation system will offer real-time luggage tracking, aiming to minimize lost luggage incidents.

Furthermore, advanced flight tracking and predictive analytics will improve arrival time estimates and runway planning. An automated airline billing system will be introduced to streamline transactions related to landing, takeoff, and other airport fees.
