Manila: Rains are forecast over Luzon due to the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, locally known as 'habagat,' the weather bureau announced Saturday. According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that two low-pressure areas outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) are being monitored. One LPA, located 1,835 km east of northeastern Mindanao, has a low probability of becoming a tropical cyclone but may enter the PAR near the Bicol-Aurora area. The second LPA, situated 900 km west of southwestern Luzon, has a high likelihood of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours. However, it is not anticipated to enter the PAR or directly impact the country. Its trough is expected to result in scattered rains and thunderstorms across the Ilocos and Cordillera regions, as well as Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya. The southwest monsoon will also bring similar weather cond itions to Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and the Bicol Region. PAGASA has issued warnings for residents in these areas about potential flash floods or landslides during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall. For the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected due to localized thunderstorms. Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail throughout the archipelago.
