Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday lauded its female personnel for "increasingly shaping the leadership landscape" of the police force.

According to Philippines News Agency, as of February 2026, women make up 52,223 of the PNP's 236,493 personnel, or 22.08 percent. This includes 43,847 uniformed personnel, 8,098 non-uniformed staff, and 278 cadets. Among senior uniformed ranks, there is one female police major general, five brigadier generals, and 125 colonels.

In a statement, the PNP said this is "a clear testament to the [national police's] commitment to gender equality and merit-based advancement." PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the rise of women leaders reflects positive change in the traditionally male-dominated force. "Sa PNP, hindi gender ang batayan ng kakayahan - ang serbisyo at dedikasyon ang mahalaga (In the PNP, gender is not the basis of ability - service and dedication are what matter)," he said. "Our women officers are out there leading, inspiring, and keeping every community safe."

As part of National Women's Month, the PNP said it continues to recognize, empower, and provide equal opportunities for women.
