Manila: The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is opening its nationwide emergency loan program for active members and pensioners following the declaration of a state of national calamity by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. due to Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) and in preparation for the approaching severe tropical storm Fung-Wong. GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said Friday that the program would provide timely financial aid for public workers and retirees affected by the calamities.

According to Philippines News Agency, Veloso emphasized the urgency of the financial relief, stating that as the country deals with the aftermath of Typhoon Tino and anticipates further impact from La Ni±a, immediate support for public sector workers and retirees is essential. The program offers qualified active members the opportunity to borrow up to PHP20,000. Those with existing emergency loans are eligible to renew and borrow up to PHP40,000, minus any outstanding balance. Additionally, old-age and disability pensioners can apply, provided that at least 25 percent of their basic monthly pension is retained after loan deductions.

The criteria for eligibility include being in active service, not on unpaid leave, having paid at least three monthly premiums within the preceding six months, having no pending administrative or criminal case, and ensuring a minimum take-home pay of PHP5,000 after deductions. Loan applications are being accepted from Nov. 7, 2025, to Feb. 7, 2026, through the GSIS Touch mobile app to facilitate quicker approval and release.

The loan repayment is structured over 36 equal monthly installments with an interest rate of 6 percent per annum.
