Masbate: The Philippine Navy has undertaken a significant mission to deliver essential relief and construction materials to Masbate province, providing crucial assistance to communities severely impacted by Severe Tropical Storm Opong.
According to Philippines News Agency, Commodore Salvador Lavapie, Commander of Naval Forces Southern Luzon (NAVFORSOL), reported on Monday that the Philippine Navy's BRP AGTA (LC290) was responsible for transporting and unloading the materials as part of its Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) mission.
The BRP AGTA was tasked with carrying 44.66 tons of construction materials from Ouano Wharf in Mandaue City, Cebu, specifically aimed at supporting ongoing rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts in Masbate. This operation was conducted in collaboration with the Tanging Yaman Foundation.
Commodore Lavapie emphasized that the successful execution of this mission demonstrates the Navy's ongoing commitment to aid fellow Filipinos in times of need. He further noted that this delivery underscores the Philippine Navy's vital role not only in national defense but also in providing humanitarian assistance, particularly as natural calamities become more frequent.
