NBI Chief’s Irrevocable Resignation Awaits Presidential Acceptance, Says Palace

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is expected to accept the irrevocable resignation of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago, Malaca±ang announced on Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated during a press briefing that they have not been informed about any communication between the President and Santiago. However, Santiago's resignation is set for acceptance. Santiago submitted his resignation letter through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on August 15, indicating his decision to resign was effective immediately upon the appointment of his replacement.

In his resignation letter, Santiago expressed concerns about detractors seeking to tarnish his reputation. Castro provided no further details about Santiago's potential successor but assured that NBI operations and services would continue uninterrupted. She addressed public concerns regarding ongoing investigations, such as the probe into the missing sabungeros (cockfighting aficionados), affirming that the agency remains staffed with credible, reliable, and trustworthy personnel who continue their work.
