Manila: The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has announced plans to summon Vice President Sara Duterte over an alleged 'kill order' targeting President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as part of a government investigation into the matter. NBI Director Jaime Santiago confirmed during a Palace press briefing that the agency has commenced an investigation into the Vice President's online threat. According to Philippines News Agency, Justice Undersecretary Jesse Andres stated that the investigation will be conducted swiftly and with full legal rigor, given the severity of a threat against the nation's highest official. He emphasized the urgency of uncovering any steps taken to hire an assassin intending to harm the President. Andres added that the NBI will issue a subpoena to Vice President Duterte to clarify her statements. The controversy stems from a pre-dawn news conference aired on social media, where Duterte launched verbal attacks against President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez. The Vice President allegedly threatened to have them assassinated in retaliation for a supposed plot against her. This statement was made while Duterte was at the House of Representatives, accompanying her chief of staff, Zuleika Lopez, who faced allegations of fund misuse. Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon indicated that Duterte's earlier remarks, including a statement last month where she imagined beheading the President, will be considered in the investigation. The Justice Department has indicated that various charges, including sedition, could be filed against the Vice President in light of these developments.
