Prosperidad: The National Capital Region (NCR) continues to dominate the medal race of the 2026 Palarong Pambansa as of 4:54 p.m. on Thursday, bagging 32 gold, 20 silver, and 28 bronze medals - a total of 80 medals - on the fourth day of competition in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
According to Philippines News Agency, Region 4-A (CALABARZON) remains in second place with 25 gold, 19 silver, and 13 bronze medals. Region 6 (Western Visayas) holds third with 14 gold, 14 silver, and 13 bronze. Region 7 (Central Visayas) is in fourth place with 13 gold, 14 silver, and 16 bronze medals, while Region 5 (Bicol Region) maintains fifth place with nine gold, eight silver, and nine bronze. Early leader Negros Island Region dropped to sixth with eight gold, 11 silver, and six bronze medals. Region 3 (Central Luzon) is seventh with eight gold, six silver, and eight bronze. Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) is eighth with seven gold, 12 silver, and 11 bronze.
Host Region 13 (Caraga) climbed to ninth from 10th place with seven gold, three silver, and 15 bronze medals. Region XI (Davao Region) rounded out the top 10 with six gold, 12 silver, and five bronze.
Agusan del Sur Gov. Santiago Cane Jr. stated in a press conference Thursday that medical concerns of athletes reported during the first day of the Palaro have been addressed, with all affected delegates receiving necessary medical attention. Cane noted that records from the Provincial Health Office indicated 165 clinical encounters, including 30 delegates from Region VIII (Eastern Visayas). He assured that all were immediately attended to and provided with proper medical intervention, with almost all already released.
In terms of security, the Police Regional Office in Caraga Region (PRO-13) confirmed that security deployments and measures for the 2026 Palarong Pambansa remain operative and in effect to ensure the safety of athletes, coaches, game officials, and visitors. PRO-13 information chief Maj. Jennifer Ometer emphasized that the regional office is constantly monitoring all security measures as planned. PRO-13 chief, Brig. Gen. Marcial Mariano Magistrado IV, conducted an assessment meeting with other security sectors to ensure effective crowd management and prevent untoward incidents throughout the event.
In a statement, Magistrado highlighted the importance of timely reporting, strong coordination, and heightened vigilance. He commended the dedication and sacrifices of the deployed personnel, whose morale and confidence are high as they sustain security operations in the ongoing Palarong Pambansa. He also reminded them to uphold professionalism, discipline, teamwork, and public trust while ensuring peace, order, and safety at the national games.
