Quezon City: The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board - National Capital Region (RTWPB-NCR) is set to hold a public hearing on the proposed minimum wage adjustment for private sector workers this Tuesday. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced on Monday that the consultation will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Ichikawa Hall, Occupational Health and Safety Center, located at North Avenue corner Sen. Miriam P. Defensor-Santiago Avenue in Diliman, Quezon City. The event is exclusive to participants from the NCR region.
According to Philippines News Agency, the agenda for the public hearing includes the discussion of several wage adjustment petitions, which propose a PHP555 increase. These petitions have been submitted to the RTWPB-NCR by various labor unions. The petitioners include the Vanson Paper Industrial Workers Union, Samahang Manggagawa sa Philippine Span Asia Carrier Corp (SM-PSACC), Samahang Manggagawa ng Jardine Schindler Elevator Corp (SMJSEC), and Himlayang Pilipino Inc Labor Union (HPILU-Independent).
Further submissions for wage adjustments have been made by the Kaisahang Manggagawa ng Himmel (KMH-ADLO), Pambato Cargo Forwarder Labor Union, Nagkakaisang Samahan ng mga Manggagawa ng Regan (NSMR-ADLO), and the Universal Robina Corporation Employees Union- Farm Division (URCEU-ANGLO-KMU).
The RTWPB-NCR has been reviewing the current minimum wage rate in Metro Manila, especially as the anniversary of the last wage increase approaches. On June 27, 2024, the NCR wage board had issued a PHP35 salary adjustment for minimum wage earners, effective from July 17, 2024. Currently, minimum wage earners in Metro Manila receive PHP645 daily for an eight-hour workday.
