Manila: Units of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) apprehended 119,497 individuals for violating local ordinances during the first half of August, generating PHP33.7 million in fines. In a news release Sunday, the NCRPO stated that 43,356 violators were fined between August 1 and 15. Of the total arrested, 75,598 were warned or released, while 543 individuals faced formal charges.
According to Philippines News Agency, the violations included drinking and smoking in public places, roaming shirtless, urinating or dumping garbage in public, and curfew violations involving minors. Other infractions were karaoke use beyond permitted hours, vandalism, road obstructions, and traffic code offenses.
NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin noted that the intensified crackdown aims to instill discipline, uphold public order, and serve as early crime prevention. He emphasized that the continuous enforcement of ordinances demonstrates the shared responsibility of the police and barangays in promoting peace, discipline, and safety within communities.
The operations were carried out by the Manila, Quezon City, Northern, Southern, and Eastern police districts.
