Trough of LPA and ‘Habagat’ Set to Bring Rains Over Luzon

Manila: The trough of a low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, locally known as "habagat," are forecasted to bring rains to various parts of Luzon on Sunday, as reported by the state weather bureau. According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has indicated that cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rains and thunderstorms are anticipated over the Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan due to the influence of the LPA's trough. Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan are also expected to experience similar weather conditions as a result of the southwest monsoon. In contrast, the remaining regions of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, primarily due to localized thunderstorms. PAGASA has issued warnings about potential flash floods and landslides that may occur due to the heavy rainfall. As of 2 a.m., the LPA, which is currently bein g monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and identified as LPA 08c, has been assessed to have a 'medium' chance of evolving into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. Moderate winds from the southwest to southeast are expected, along with moderate sea conditions ranging from 1.2 meters to 2.5 meters over the western section of Luzon. Meanwhile, the northern section of Luzon and the rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds with slight to moderate sea conditions.
