NCRPO Reports 11% Drop in Crime Rate in Metro Manila.

Metro Manila: The crime rate in Metro Manila has seen a significant decrease of 11.12 percent from October 9 to November 4, as reported by National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director, Major General Sydney Hernia. The total number of crimes fell by 957 incidents, tallying 7,649 compared to the 8,606 incidents recorded between September 12 and October 8. According to Philippines News Agency, this decline is attributed to the NCRPO's proactive anti-criminality campaigns, strategic deployments, and digital policing efforts, which have contributed to improved safety and security in the region. The NCRPO, which covers the Manila Police District, Quezon City Police District, Northern Police District, Southern Police District, and Eastern Police District, conducted 703 operations during the period. These operations resulted in the arrest of 1,039 individuals and the confiscation of significant quantities of illegal substances, including 10,518.19 grams of suspected shabu and 2,815.99 grams of marijuana, a mong others. In preparation for the 2025 National and Local Elections, NCRPO's campaign against loose firearms led to the arrest of 157 individuals and the confiscation of 160 firearms in 155 operations. Efforts against illegal gambling resulted in the arrest of 1,954 individuals and the seizure of PHP542,404.75 in 792 successful operations. The NCRPO's efforts also led to the apprehension of 539 most-wanted persons and 708 other wanted individuals during this period. The NCRPO effectively managed security for international events, including the International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security 2024, the WHO Regional Conference, and the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, which saw over 3,000 delegates and concluded without any incidents. Additionally, a peaceful observance of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day was ensured through comprehensive inspections at transport terminals, cemeteries, and other public venues. Hernia highlighted the NCRPO's modernization initiatives, which have bolstered crime reduction efforts. These initiatives include the PNP Law Enforcement Reporting and Information System app, which improves crime reporting and rapid response coordination, and the Electronic Daily PNP Personnel Accounting System, which tracks personnel and enhances operational efficiency and accountability. Hernia noted that these digital solutions have been instrumental in providing real-time updates and efficient responses during crucial events to maintain public order. He emphasized that advancements in digital applications like PNP LERIS and EDDPAS are transforming operations to be more responsive, transparent, and efficient, reflecting a commitment to prioritizing public safety.
