Manila: Nearly 1,000 people sought assistance from the Department of Health (DOH) Mental Health Hotline during the recent holiday period, according to the agency's social media post on Saturday.
According to Philippines News Agency, data from the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) showed that 961 callers reached out to the DOH Mental Health Hotline from December 21, 2025, to January 2, 2026. A spike in calls was noted on December 30, 2025, with the most common concerns involving relationship or love life problems, anxiety, and depressive symptoms.
Health authorities said the increase highlights the emotional and psychological strain experienced by some individuals during the holidays, a period often associated with heightened stress and personal challenges. The DOH said it will continue to monitor mental health cases through January 5, as part of its post-holiday surveillance, to ensure a timely response to emerging concerns.
The department also assured the public that mental health hotlines will remain operational, encouraging those experiencing emotional distress to seek professional help and support. It also reiterated its call for greater awareness of mental health issues and urged individuals to reach out for assistance, emphasizing that help is available and accessible.
