Negros occidental: Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson announced that the provincial government will provide financial assistance of PHP2 million to Bogo City, which was struck by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake in the Visayas region last week. "We have decided to adopt Bogo. We're sending PHP2 million," Lacson stated to Capitol reporters.
According to Philippines News Agency, the commitment comes as the One Negros Response Team, comprising responders from the provincial government and nine local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental, continues to deliver relief supplies, including potable water, to Bogo City and neighboring municipalities. The team has been operational in Cebu since October 3.
During the initial two-day mission from October 4 to 5, the responders distributed 92,100 liters of potable water, benefiting 921 families or 4,605 individuals. Governor Lacson emphasized that as Negros Occidental "stands with Cebu in this time of need," he is urging other LGUs in the province to adopt affected localities if their budget permits.
Accompanied by other provincial officials, Lacson expressed gratitude and commended the nine LGUs participating in the One Negros Response Team's deployment to Cebu. These areas include the cities of San Carlos, Sipalay, Silay, Sagay, Cadiz, Talisay, Escalante, and Victorias, along with the municipality of Toboso.
"Your courage, compassion, and unity prove that in times of crisis, Negros Occidental stands not just for itself, but for the entire nation," the provincial officials declared in a statement.
