DUMAGUETE CITY: The Negros Oriental provincial health officer has ordered the investigation of social media reports that medicines purportedly for medical mission were found buried in a vacant lot in this capital city.
Provincial Health Office officer-in-charge, Dr. Liland Estacion, said she learned about the incident only last Tuesday and immediately asked her team to verify the reports and conduct a thorough probe.
“I have ordered an investigation on this and until the results are out, I cannot comment yet on the social media posts and photos regarding this incident,” she said in mixed English and Cebuano.
Photos of alleged expired medicines and other medical paraphernalia were circulating on Facebook. Social media posts said these medicines were supposedly intended for the provincial government’s medical mission.
While she did not want to pre-empt the result of the investigation, Estacion said the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH) and other hospitals of the province have a protocol to follow in the proper disposal of expired medicines, paraphernalia, and hospital wastes
