Negros island region: Election officers in the Negros Island Region (NIR) are being encouraged to arrange satellite voter registrations in barangays in preparation for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) scheduled for next year, an official announced.
According to Philippines News Agency, Lawyer Lionel Marco Castillano, the regional director of the Commission on Elections (Comelec)-NIR, stated in an interview that the current voter registration drive aims to encompass as many eligible voters as possible. "We are asking the election officers to submit their respective schedules for satellite registration in their barangays as well as in the malls where possible," Castillano noted.
Additionally, the Comelec is initiating the 'register anywhere' program, designed to enable more individuals to register for the BSKE even if they are outside their registered home address. Castillano detailed that the voter registration period resumed on October 20 and will continue until May 18, 2026, running from Monday to Saturday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The process now also accommodates the transfer of registration, Castillano added. Registrants are encouraged to access registration forms online and scan the QR Code before visiting the Comelec office. The Comelec-NIR anticipates a five to ten percent increase in the number of registered voters for the upcoming BSKE.
