Negros oriental: The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Negros Oriental has affirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of children, as stated by an official on Friday. Lt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson for the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO), emphasized their duty to protect children from abuse and violence.

According to Philippines News Agency, Polinar expressed concern for children being part of a vulnerable sector where abuses are prevalent, underscoring the need to provide them with necessary security. Polinar, who also serves as the head of the Provincial Tourism Unit (PTU), praised the involvement of foreign residents in Dauin town in their efforts.

On Thursday afternoon, a collaborative initiative involving the PTU, local police, and foreign residents led to a feeding program and gift-giving event for approximately 120 children at an elementary school in Barangay Baslay, Dauin. Polinar mentioned plans to make this an annual event, targeting different schools in vulnerable areas.

This initiative aligns with the celebration of National Children's Month this November, reinforcing the collective commitment to child welfare in the region.
