KOTA BHARU, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Nenggiri state by-election, Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, the Kelantan UMNO Youth chief, pledged to fullfil the trust and responsibility vested on him by the party. He acknowledged that he was surprised to be chosen as the candidate for the Nenggiri by-election, as he knew of the decision only hours before the announcement was made by Kelantan UMNO liaison committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, who is also state BN chairman, at Dewan UMNO Negeri here today. 'As we are aware, BN lost the seat in the previous state election. Therefore, I pledge to work hard to win the seat back,' he told reporters during a press conference at Dewan Umno Negeri, here today. Mohd Azmawi Fikri, 38, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration (Honours) from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and has received many awards for his achievements, including winning the Perdana Youth Award in 2022. He was also committed to youth and volunteer activities through several non-governmental organisations (NGOs). In the 2018 UMNO election, Mohd Azmawi Fikri was elected as the Gua Musang UMNO Youth Movement chief before being appointed as the Kelantan UMNO Youth Chief last year. On June 19, Kelantan Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah announced that the Nenggiri state assembly seat was vacant after Mohd Azizi Abu Naim had his party membership revoked by Bersatu on June 13. The Election Commission (EC) has set polling for Aug 17, with the nomination of candidates on Aug 3 and early voting on Aug 13. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
